AWU Queensland Branch Elects New Secretary
The Australian Workers’ Union (AWU) has announced that Steve Baker will become the new Queensland Branch Secretary after current Branch Secretary Ben Swan informed the Union of his intention to resign from the position later this month.
On 3rd July 2018, Ben Swan notified the Queensland Branch Executive of his intention to resign as Branch Secretary on 20th July 2018.
An AWU member for twenty-nine years, Ben Swan will retire as Branch Secretary after working in the Union for the past twenty years in various positions, including AWU Assistant National Secretary and AWU Queensland Branch Secretary.
Ben looks forward to concentrating on completing his tertiary studies and exploring other opportunities outside the field of industrial relations.
On Tuesday the Queensland Branch Executive unanimously, and by acclamation, elected current Acting Branch Secretary Steve Baker to the role of AWUEQ and AWU Queensland Branch Secretary.
Steve Baker is a true, active, rank-and-file member of the AWU for nearly 30 years, rising through the ranks to become Branch Secretary.
In 2012, he was elected Vice President of the AWU Queensland Branch and AWU Southern District Secretary.
In addition to these roles, Steve has held a number of positions, including:
- Member of the AWU Queensland Branch Executive and AWUEQ Executive
- Member of the AWU National Executive
- Assistant Secretary of the Queensland Branch
Steve Baker will officially become AWU Queensland and AWUEQ Branch Secretary on 21st July 2018.
