Dreamworld Coronial Inquest Hearing Start
The Australian Workers Union (AWU) says the union hopes the Dreamworld Inquest currently underway will expose the culture of secrecy and the findings will address the behaviours of Dreamworld Management and the Regulator.
AWU Acting Branch Secretary Steve Baker said union members have been concerned about the Dreamworld’s approach to safety matters.
“The AWU has taken a proactive role in pursuing these safety concerns about safety with Dreamworld Management,” Steve Baker said.
“A major concern has been a culture of secrecy in the behaviour of Dreamworld management.
“Whenever the Union sought documentation from Dreamworld regarding safety issues, these requests were refused by management.
“This meant the union had to pursue this information through other means including Right to Information processes.
“The AWU has handed over all pertinent documentation to the Queensland Police for the Queensland Coroner to assist with the coronial inquest and assist further if requested.”
The Coronial Inquest will consider the circumstances and cause of the fatal incident on the Thunder River Rapids Ride at the Dreamworld Theme Park, which happened on 25th October 2016.
The AWU has provided documentation and statements to assist with the Coronial Inquest regarding this fatal incident.
